The problem is because the Mass Storage Controller is using IDE instead of SCSI and because you're using a monolithicSparse virtual hard disk it might just be easier to re-image the source and make sure you select "LSI Logic SAS" as you walk through the wizard in VMware vCenter Converter.
The other option is to just keep it as a IDE Disk and edit the Windows Registry as detailed in my reply Re: Hyper-V to VMware however keep in mind that was an answer I gave in the VMware Fusion forum so while the general information is what needs to be done some links are to VMware Fusion documentation not VMware Workstation, although the basic steps are still necessary.
