Hello -
We're really trying to make VDP work, but this is our 3rd attempt and it still seems to lack some key (basic) management functionality. Here's the scenario:
- Create a backup job
- Backup job starts, and size exceeds the available space on the VDP appliance
- Job hangs indefinitely (from our perspective, we waited for hours after seeing the "appliance full" message)
- Try killing the "task" associated with the job (since VDP provides no context for the "status" of a job from the VDP UI)
- Nothing appears to change, appliance capacity is still "100% full"
- Delete the job, nothing appears to change, appliance capacity is still "100% full"
- Reboot the appliance
- Fortunately, it does clean up the snapshots from the VMs that failed to complete their backup
- However the device still read as "100% full", and I'm unable to "manage" the failed backups, since the only way you can delete a backup is if it successfully completes!
- I'm sure the first recommendation will be to "Run an Integrity Check", however that fails as well with a "Integrity Check can not be run at this time"
So my solution was to nuke the appliance and start from scratch again, but honestly, that's a really annoying solution. A simple "format appliance" or "delete all backup data" option would be great. Has anyone else experienced this?
