I have the similar issue here.. I tired to review my hosts file, the hostd contents (like making sure the path in the datastores.xml is correct, in addition to even try to remove it from the system) However, it is still not working for me. If I try to enable it from the Workstation 8 itself, I will get this error on pop up:
"VMWare WorkStation failed to connect to the workstation server."
while if I try to start the VMWare Server Service from the service mmc, it will not pop up and error message but the service will stop right after it tried to start. And I can see this error from the event viewer table:
"The Service Control Manager tried to take a corrective action (Run the configured recovery program) after the unexpected termination of the VMware Workstation Server service, but this action failed with the following error:
3 is not a valid Win32 application."
any hint or suggestions? My OS is 64 bit Windows 7.
